CORNERED

INT. APARTMENT - NIGHT

A dingy apartment in a dystopian high rise. A door is barricaded with furniture. A windows have been blacked out with taped up sheets.

JJ, a tech girl with a buzz cut, peeks out of the corner of a sheet on the window. She’s sweating.

MILES, a boho guy with a greasy manbun, sits on the floor and cleans a clunky plastic gun. He’s sweating.

ALEX, a black girl with purple eyeshadow and blue lips, looks lost in thought. Snaps out of it. She isn’t sweating.

ALEX

What the fuck are we doing?

JJ

Whatcha mean?

ALEX

We’re trapped here like rats. They’re gonna say no to our demands and come in. We all know it.

Miles taps his gun a few times.

MILES

Let them. Me and Chun-Li are ready.

JJ

Eww. Why do men do that? It’s just a gun.

MILES

Oh you mean like your AI girlfriend is just a piece of software.

JJ turns to look at Miles. Gives him a nasty look.

JJ

You keep her out of your dirty whore mouth Miles.

Miles puts up his hand in mock surrender. The gun lies on his lap.

MILES

Alright, alright. Let’s call it a draw.

ALEX

Jesus. Can we concentrate for like five minutes. I know you’re tired and sweaty, but we need to focus!

MILES

You found time to put on makeup in the middle of all this.

ALEX

Bitch, I need to look amazing or the people would revolt. Besides, we actually need to think about our appearances. This shit is gonna be plastered all over sec-news and I for one don’t want to add to the greasy stereotype.

JJ

So what do you think we should do? Because I’m pretty sure the pigs outside are prepping for something big.

ALEX

Simple. Let’s attack them instead.

Miles laughs.

MILES

You’re insane, but I kinda like it. Give me a blue sky to die under any day.

JJ

Miles, the sky’s like always gray. They have us surrounded. How would we get past them? I’m guessing you want to cause maximum damage and that would definitely be their drone van. If you can get me there I could turn their own drones against them. Let the fuckers show that on sec-news.

ALEX

You forget I used to fix the lights here. I know the access tunnels like no one else.

MILES

I’m pretty sure they have those closed off as well.

ALEX

Sure they do, but the technical tunnels are attached to the sewers and I bet they didn’t want to send their people get all dirty in some underground maze. All we need is to make it to the sewers and come up from a manhole. Easy peasy.

JJ

I’d feel a lot safer if someone was distracting them while we’re doing this.

JJ and Alex turn to look at Miles at the same time.

Miles grins.

MILES

Hell yeah. I though you’d never ask. I grabbed a few grenades from some cops. Thinking of retuning them in near mint condition.

ALEX

It’s a plan. And if anyone survives this, lets meet at the safehouse.

MILES

Wait we have a safehouse?

JJ

She means her uncle’s flat.

MILES

Oh.

ALEX

If we must die, o let us nobly die.

Alex starts removing an access panel on the wall.

Miles puts grenades on his belt.

JJ stuffs tech gear in a back bag.
