EXT. HENGE - NIGHT

MEL, a woman with light red hair in her late teens, is kneeling on a meadow next to TRISH, a smaller woman with black hair in her late teens. Candles light up the meadow, which is surrounded by old gray standing stones in a circle.

Robed female figures chant around Mel. Trish turns and looks at Mel.

MEL

(whispering)

It’s alright. We can do this.

Trish nods her head. Looks forward.

QUEEN, an older woman in a crimson robe and a wooden deer mask, steps in front of Mel and Trish. She pulls a dagger in the shape of a serpent’s tongue from her sleeve.

QUEEN

The time has come. Will you bleed and join us, sisters?

Queen offers the dagger to Trish. She doesn’t take the offered dagger. Mel grabs it instead.

EXT. FOREST - DAY

A dead blackbird lays on an autumn forest floor. Squatting Mel stares at the dead bird.

TRISH (O.S.)

Hey! Come here. I found it.

Mel gets up and walks behind a tree where Trish is standing with a purple flower cradled in her hands.

MEL

That’s it?

TRISH

It looks just like they said. Come on. Let’s get ready.

INT. HIGH SCHOOL HALLWAY - DAY

Mel and Trish lean against lockers. Mel’s right hand is wrapped in gauze.

TRISH

You look like a total klutz with that thing.

MEL

I thought I had to cut my hand like in movies.

TRISH

Yeah. Hey Mel. How do you feel? Do you, like, have this weird feeling inside you?

MEL

Umm. I felt a little woozy this morning. But I’m pretty okay considering what we did. You feel weird?

TRISH

Yeah. I feel this pressure. Like inside me. Maybe it’ll pass.

INT. DOUGHNUT SHOP - NIGHT

A doughnut shop decorated in baby pink and baby blue. Plastic flowers, “Love, Faith, Doughnuts” written on a wall. The shop entrance is cordoned off by police tape. The flashing lights of police cars flash in the windows.

OFFICER, a middle-aged Latino woman with a tight hair bun, steps into the shop ducking under the police tape. She looks at a table in a booth splattered over a half-eaten doughnut.

INT. DOUGHNUT SHOP - DAY

Mel and Trish sit opposite each other in the booth in the doughnut shop. Both have a doughnut and a soda in front of them.

MEL

You know joining the coven is gonna help us. All the uni admins and HR-ladies are members. Basically, you join and your future is GUA-RAN-TEED.

TRISH

I guess. I’m happy you talked me into this. I was so ready to bail back there.

MEL

Hey, I would’ve never found that flower without you. Let’s stick together, and we’ll do fine. Yeah?

TRISH

Yeah. Always together.

Trish smiles and takes a bite out of her doughnut.
